Stillborn Baby

I’ve long moved on
And I am truly happy
We both knew
It wasn’t meant to be

So, yes I’ve forgotten her
She is ancient history
And there wasn’t much to remember
Our love was a stillborn baby

You see, I’d never kissed her lips
Never played with her curly hair
Or felt the warmth of her cheeks
Laying against my bare skin
On a lazy Sunday morning

So, really, what is there to forget—
I tell myself every day
And I know, one day soon
when the beating stops in my chest
Her love will have faded away
